Prickly Chairs
Mexican designer Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers has cleverly and humorously transformed the classic French Louis XV oval chair into the shape of a Nopal cactus. Add multicolored Otomi upholstery and I officially need at least one in my home. (via here)

África Magnífica
I love and appreciate Nick Brandt’s photography even more after learning more about his foundation Big Life, a non-profit organization dedicated to conserving Africa’s wildlife and ecosystems. Since its inception in September 2010, Big Life has hired over 120 rangers, built 14 outposts, and purchased 13 night-vision equipped vehicles in an urgent response to the recent dramatic escalation in poaching across much of Africa. All the proceeds from the sale of these stunning prints are being donated the foundation.

Yayoi Kusama’s “The Obliteration Room”
An interactive installation by Yayoi Kusama that is sure to bring a smile to your face is currently on exhibit at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art. Titled “The Obliteration Room”, the project started out a whitewashed home interior as a blank canvas for children visiting the museum to cover with colorful dots. It’s a an exercise in participatory art, in layering and builup.
“Visitors leave their traces on the space. Their experience of the exhibit becomes manifest in the exhibit. And through the innocent randomness of children’s choices, a pleasurable kind of order emerges. The impulses to cover and to cluster — to cover and conquer a new white space or to cluster around a social crowd of others — make the distribution playful and human.” – via

Giambattista Valli Spring Couture 2012
Giambattista Valli‘s haute couture collection has been described as pure fairytale. I couldn’t agree more. I can only dream of having a reason to wear such pristine gowns and cocktail dresses. The belts and jewelry, created out of pure sheets of silver by Luigi Scialanga, as well as the hydrangea-like floral accessories are truly stunning. Can you hear Giambattista’s phone ringing for dress requests for the Oscars? (via here)
